In recent years, China has successively introduced a series of policy measures to support the development of cross-border e-commerce. According to calculations by the General Administration of Customs, in the first three quarters of 2024, China's cross-border e-commerce imports and exports amounted to 1.88 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.5%.
The acceleration of cross-border e-commerce cannot be achieved without the efficient logistics system guarantee in China. However, it should also be noted that high international logistics costs and complex international transportation links can affect the development process of cross-border e-commerce. In my opinion, in order to solve the pain points and bottlenecks of international transportation and promote high-quality development of cross-border logistics, Chinese logistics enterprises should continue to make efforts in three aspects.
One is to accelerate the construction of infrastructure and smooth the cross-border logistics network.
A well-developed logistics infrastructure is the cornerstone of the flourishing development of cross-border logistics. At present, the main shortcoming of China's logistics enterprises' "going global" is insufficient infrastructure. This year, China has introduced policy measures such as the "Guidelines for Improving the Supply Chain Management Level of Manufacturing Enterprises (Trial)" and the "Opinions on Expanding Cross border E-commerce Exports and Promoting Overseas Warehouse Construction" to promote logistics enterprises to reasonably layout international logistics infrastructure.
Under the promotion of policies, Chinese logistics companies have increased their efforts in building overseas warehouses, expanding the global supply chain logistics network, and providing a stable and fast track for Chinese goods to be sold globally. Next, by accelerating the construction of a global logistics infrastructure, the service speed and smoothness level of cross-border logistics can be further improved.
The second is to break through the situation with "digitalization" and achieve cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
Compared to established international logistics giants, Chinese logistics companies are at a disadvantage in terms of customer base. However, China's logistics industry giants are vigorously developing smart logistics, accelerating the construction of intelligent logistics systems, and opening up a new "sea going" channel with the advantages of high efficiency and low cost.
In the future, logistics companies still need to actively embrace new opportunities such as AI big models, accelerate the speed of digital transformation, and achieve their own high-quality development.
The third is to build a foundation through "cooperation" and create a global logistics ecosystem.
Chinese logistics companies need to seize the policy dividends, expand their international "circle of friends", and establish an international logistics network that integrates road, railway, air, and pipeline transportation through various means such as cooperation, mergers and acquisitions, and shareholding, to unite more local "friends". At the same time, Chinese logistics companies also need to collaborate with more upstream and downstream enterprises in the international industrial chain, connect the upstream raw material and downstream finished product industries, and form a complete global logistics ecosystem.
